    Hi All,

I may have to move to Miami for grad school and I am wondering what style of Salsa they do in the clubs? I am a proficient LA style dancer (male) from SoCal (San Diego). Will I have to learn Casino/Miami to function here? Does anyone dance LA or NY style in Miami?

Note: I'm not opposed to learning a new style. Just curious if I'll have to go back to taking lessons again.

DoctorSalsa, I do not know first-hand, but friends from Florida seem to do a lot of Rueda/Casino. At any rate, good luck here with your question--you are in the right place. And also: Welcome to Dance Forums! :spam:

Every time I have danced in Miami it's been On1.

It's going to be great for you, possibly moving to another area with lots of wonderful Salsa dancing!

Yes, my experience was also that on1 was most prevalent, but also that Rueda is huge down there. I also found that the clubs on the strip in Miami Beach are more for tourists (too crowded to really dance), and the real dancing is elsewhere.

Salsa Rueda is so fun, including as a group showcase... :)

Thanks for the input. I'll probably head up to LA for a while and learn some casino before I leave.
