The new tango thought crime http://simbatango.com/2010/06/02/mickey-mousing/ are you guilty?? "I think of it as no beat escaping unmolested." Ms Hedgehog
I like micky mousing but done sparingly. And followers who never experienced it before love it. And I also let follower do it on herself. It certainly adds up to musicality. Everything done in a abundance become boring.
I prefer Mickey Mousing (still not entirely clear on where the separation is between dancing beautifully and musically and "Mickey Mousing," other than someone else doesn't like it) over constant, unchanging shuffling to the beat, while doing the same few patterns over and over and over and over and over, with no feeling through the body, with "dancing" that ends at the knees. But, hey! They're "keeping things simple," and I suppose I should be glad they've at least managed to find the beat.
OMG! Zombie leaders! I LOVE it...I'm going to steal that to describe the most annoying (to me) sort of leader. Heh...zombie leaders. It's perfect. ...brains...
Once I asked a very skilled and advanced follower: me: why do you dance so often with this zombie her: I can do what I want
I tire of people bashing other peoples styles of dancing and I can detect a little envy in the tone of the author. I do often dance what the author refers to as Micky Mousing, but I haven't had complaints yet.
I think Tango zombies are those that shuffle around the floor usually stepping one step to every beat and have no expression on their face at all as if they completely lack emotion. I also call them tango sleepwalkers.
I think there is a third hybrid type; the Roboplanks (plancos de roboticos); they model their dancing on David Byrne in his Big Suit and they think Cadenzia is a type of coffee.
I don't see it that way. One is criticism of valid preferences (different styles), the other is criticism of lack of technique and/or musicality (shuffling).
